I took this shot at my graindmother's house in Western Iowa. My wife, new daughter and I were visiting in late summer, and I had just acquired a new Nikon. I woke up early and decided to play with my new toy. I let the camera choose exposure and aperture,Time
Early morning and late evening are the best as far as I am concerned. However, as a photojournalist, I've had to figure out a variety of scenes.Lighting
It was early morning on an overcast day, as I recall. I liked the soft, shadow free light.Equipment
I had a Nikon 9000 wth a 35-300 zoom Nikor lens loaded with Ektachrome ISO 100.Inspiration
Most of my experience was with Tri-X PAN 400. this was one of the first rolls of trqansparency film I exposed. This pic was taken 30+ years ago while I was still souping and printing my own B&W shots in a darkroom. I wanted to see if I could make color work.Editing
I din't know enough about color to be dangerous. This print is a 35mm slide scanned at 600 dpi on an Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner. I added a touch of unsharp masking and just the slightes touch of warmth. I generally scan to TIFF (bad habit from my print days) then adjust size, etc. when I convert to JPEG.In my camera bag
It is to weep. I had a full outfit-- Nikon body, Nikon flash, 35-300, 50mm Nikor lenses, fill flash unit, spot and indirect photometer, filters, bounce flash attachments and tripod. I lost my gear to finances after a disabling injury in 2006. Nowadays, I've gotten back into things with my Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra as I drool over the Nikon FX bodies.Feedback
I had an old photo grabber tell me that the only way to learn to take picture is by taking pictures. Have a camera loaded with film wherever you go and take pictures of what you see until whatever you see makes a great picture
