Centralia used to be a bustling little mining town in Northeast Pennsylvania until 1962 when an unchecked garbage fire spread to a vein of coal, subsequently destroying the quaint village with an underground inferno that still burns to this day. I included a link on the town for anyone interested in learning more about their story.
