Location
This photo was taken in Pereybére, Mauritius. On the island you never know what kind of sunset you will get. You just have to be there, be patient. Sometimes it is gloriously colorful and other days the most beautiful pastel pink & purples & yellow, sometimes dull grey and not very often so cloudy that you don't even get a glimpse of Mr Sunshine.Time
It was a few minutes before sunset that I finally grabbed this shot. I am new to long exposure, and absolutely looove the results.Lighting
Sun was setting quickly now...and you could start to see the promise of the colours that would be on display for the evening show. I got really excited as I was watching the waves hitting the rocks and trying to time it to get to see the milkiness of the water running over the rock and watching the sky. It was magical.Equipment
Canon 5D mark iii with 16-35mm lens. Benro Tripod. Hahnel Intervalometer. No filters.Inspiration
I was looking for some rocks where the waves could gently roll over, to try this new long exposure journey I am on. And not many options of rocky spots in Mauritius, this was the perfect spot for this adventure.Editing
I don't do lots of editing. I created a pre-set a few months ago to use on my beach photography. A Linear Gradient for the sky(which I sometimes don't need and end up deleting). The preset also include a few radial filters with Exposure and a some clarity & texture to enhance some spots. Color grading and exposure slightly adjusted to get nice contrast. In a nutshell that is all.In my camera bag
I normally carry my Canon 5D mark iii with 16-35mm and 100m Macro. I absolutely love these two lenses. And find myself using these 2 most often when I shoot outdoors.Feedback
Always go for the sunset if you live close enough to the beach. You never know, some days look promising, but then don't deliver, then there is those unexpected surprise days. It's like playing golf, you will always go back, just because of that One awesome shot.
