As a tradition we plant a lilac bush in our front yard each time we have a new grandchild. We have 6 lilac bushes now. This butterfly decided to stop for a visit on our 2nd granddaughters lilac bush!Time
I took this picture on a lazy Saturday afternoon, around 2 pm.Lighting
This was taken in the natural lighting of a beautiful spring day.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS Rebel T2i, with a zoom lens. No tripod, no flash just me, my camera & of course, the butterfly!Inspiration
We were lazing under the tree in our front yard on a gorgeous afternoon when the butterfly landed. I ran in the house to get my camera on the off chance it would still be there when I got back. This photo was meant to be. I had time to get the camera, fire it up, focus & shoot! I got quite a few great shots but this is my favorite.Editing
The only post-processing was to crop it & make the butterfly the main focus. I also wanted to keep the deep green background to make the other colors really pop. The lighting & color is all natural. In my camera bag
I now carry a Canon EOS Rebel T6i, zoom & wide angle lenses, remote, tripod & various filters.Feedback
While it's good to know the technical aspects of photography, it's not always the most important part of a picture that moves people. Keep your eyes & mind open to world around you. A photograph should tell a story, it should make a person want to be there, in that moment, inspire them or make them imagine themselves there. It should make them feel. There's beauty all around, whether on top of the highest mountain, in the busiest city or just hanging in the front yard on a sunny, lazy Saturday afternoon. Be open to possibilities, even if the butterfly isn't there anymore, the chance for a beautiful capture was always possible. Keep your camera close, you never know when the next inspiring moment will happen, remember sometimes it's okay to just fire it up, focus & shoot!
