Behind The Lens

Location

I captured this image at one of my favourite locations that I visit alot over many years and at different times and different seasons. In rural Victoria in Australia not far from home around the Dookie district.

Time

As I wanted the sun behind me I captured this image in the afternoon having shot this scene many times over the years it is always interesting to shoot at different times of the day/ afternoon and mornings and during different times of the year.

Lighting

The light was lovely and not harsh the sun was soft behind me as I shot towards the hill along the fenceline leading the viewers eyes towards into the shot threw following that fenceline.

Equipment

I shot this image with one of my canon cameras 6D mark 11 with my wide angle 16-35 ml lens mounted on my manfrotto tripod using shutter release cable.

Inspiration

As I have previously said this location is a favourite of mine in my local rural area where crops are grown I particularly love the fenceline leading our eyes to the hill and the sky with the top of the hill and 2 of my favourite trees . I find this scene interesting and different at all times of the year and at different times. I found shooting here has interesting elements in the foreground ,centre and background of image at anytime. And as the seasons and weather changes so to does this scene ! from the ground freshy ploughed and sowed to the flowering canola or wheat to harvest time. If you view my portfolio here you will see this scene at various times and different years .

Editing

I always shoot in raw and it is very important to get your exposure correct in camera your histogram can certainly help you with that as can metering ect as for post -processing I always check for any dust spots and clean them up if any and check shadows/highlights very general editing .

In my camera bag

I usually carry 3 canon cameras Canon EOS 5d mark111, canon EOS 5d mark 1V & canon 6d mark11, lenses include 24-70ml, 16-35ml wide angle,70-200ml zoom. and a few others. always my manfrotto tripod, in my bag also spare memory cards, Along with shutter release cable, cleaning cloths, weatherproof bags, monopod, I usualy. have 2 camera bags sometimes 3 depending on where i am venturing to backpacks are a must and being waterproof is essential dont forget a spare set of clothes for yourself just incase of bad weather and most of us at some stage have been caught in it I carry other items as well.

Feedback

Always follow the. weather .....so you can plan ahead ..... you maybe after a particular sky .... you may want to shoot a scene like this when the crops are flowering for the colours,or the paddocks freshly ploughed therefore capturing the texture in the soil. Plan what time you wish to go lighting is important what type of lighting are you after soft is always lovely or maybe the light from a dramatic stormy sky I would strongly advice never harsh middle of the day light. plan your composition and what elements you are aiming for. Capture a scene at different times of the year for interesting compositions and detail and elements enjoy being out there xxx
