This image was captured in my local rural countryside in Dookie area in north east Victoria in Australia where I live. The rural country side I live in is cropping country where cereal crops are grown as in wheat and canola along with oats also the area also produces beautiful bean crops.Time
I captured this image in the late afternoon as I did not want any harsh sunlight and I had been waiting for a cloudy day to allow myself the diffused light from the clouds.Lighting
I am a natural light photographer and I had been waiting for a cloudy day to shoot this image at this location as I wanted the clouds to form a nice diffusion and they did whilst still allowing myself to capture the vibrant yellow flowering canola and the vivid green wheat crops along with the rich colour of our soils along the fence line leading the viewer towards the lovely sky .Equipment
I shoot with a Canon EOS 5D mark111 manfrotto tripod, This day I used my EF - 24-70 m lens. I also have other lenses including canon EF 70-200m lensInspiration
My inspiration for this particular image was to capture the thriving crops in a way that wasn't harsh and hard to look at) I wanted an interesting leading line where the viewers eyes would be lead along the fence line towards the hilltop the tree and the beautiful cloud formation . I wanted the colours to jump out at the viewers and to include two varieties of crops to show the diversity while enhancing the vibrant colours. I wanted to capture an interesting image in my use of composition here.Editing
I always shoot in Raw I aim to have the correct exposure whilst shooting i.e. watching that histogram and metering and exposing for the shoot . Post production a small adjustment to shadows/highlights.In my camera bag
In my bag my treasured Canon EOS 5D Mark 111 Manfrotto Tripod Canon EF 24-70 m lens Canon EF 70-200 nifty fifty 50 lens/spare batteries/ monopod/cleaning gear /backpack/saving for more lenses and gear.Feedback
Think ahead and plan the shot/image you want to capture you may have to visit and re-visit the location at different times of the day and different times of the year think hard about everything....lighting your composition , gear, time, points of interest i.e. as above image. be different in what your want put your own style of shooting into everything you shoot. Be patient and practice is so important it doesn't matter how long we have been a photographer every time we go out we learn again again . lighting is so important .... I love how a certain location can change with the seasons with the natural light at different times and how you can go out and capture it all in different ways ! Be yourself don't be lead my others we all have our own own styles and love what you do be happy :))
