Location
I took this photo on Pawleys Island in South Carolina at sunset. A sweet little chapel that sits on the waters edge of the marsh. A church that is still in service every Sunday for many of the locals.Time
This photo was taken at 7:38PM shortly before sunset.Lighting
The sky behind this little chapel was beautiful. The contrails in the sky from a plane flying over head shortly before I took this picture left a defining cloud line behind the cross. The sun was shining through the glass windows giving the church a beautiful glow. The front of the church was getting dark at this time of night so I brightened the shadows on the stairs and ramp as well as adding some light on the steeple.Equipment
I used my favorite camera the Nikon Coolpix P1000 shooting at ISO 100, 5mm, F50, f125. This photo was taken handheld.Inspiration
I love sunsets and water and this little chapel. This chapel is well know to the local photographers and many photos are taken of it regularly. This night, while driving by, the sky was calling out to me. I loved the way the light was illuminating the steeple and the cross. The clouds were pretty and there was a nice balance between the colors and blacks and whites. While walking around and looking from different angles, I could feel a sense of peacefulness and calmness. I couldn't wait to go home an process this photo.Editing
This photo required some little tweaks. I reduced the over all exposure, and added some highlights were I felt they would draw attention to this chapel. In my camera bag
I always pack my Nikon Coolpix P1000 and lens wipes. Not much else is needed. The P1000 has a zoom from 24mm-3000. I keep a tripod in the car but didn't need it for this photo.Feedback
Do your homework, research a little about the subject. If you are looking for sunrise or sunset pictures, research what time the sun will be setting and where. I use Photographers Ephemeris site. I am able to look up all the details I need to know where would be best to stand on any given day to get the sun setting at a specific place.
