Whether in style, the butt of jokes, or not, I still love my Crocs! They have fantastic arch support, wear fairly well, are washable and impervious to body fluids, and best of all let your feet breathe. They come in fun colors, though the men's colors have gotten very limited lately, but new colorful patterns have been introduced.
Yes, there are a few negatives. They're plastic, not eco-friendly, and because of their semi=stiff nature, are not great for walking extreme distances. They're way overpriced, this much molded plastic is not at all costly. And lastly, on an old pair when the soles wear down, walking on wet surfaces is very hazardous like a bald tire, as they can slip and slide.
Then there's the joke about 'Crocs with sox', Well, I remember another situation where I tried to wear a kilt without underwear as is the norm, that didn't work at all, and I suffered for several days afterwards, I also tried wearing my Crocs on bare feet and got blistered. Now I'm amazed whenever I see anyone wearing a kilt or barefoot Crocs.
So if you're in San Francisco and see someone on the bus wearing Crocs with white sox, say 'Hi', it's me. With a pair of vintage shoe stretchers, totally useless in this case.
