Behind The Lens

Location

I had passed by the entrance to this "park" off of John Street in Thornhill by car many times. Kept saying to myself I have to check this place out at some point. So off I went one Friday evening to explore the German Mills Meadow and Natural Habitat. There is a main pathway that runs down the centre of the area running north / south. Foliage for quite a distance everywhere

Time

I started out walking early evening and as I continued to stroll along it was becoming dusk.

Lighting

I passed by the area in the photo first while heading north and noted the spot having potential for a good composition. On my way back, the sun was setting further downwards and the area seemed to have a nice warm glow about it.

Equipment

I used a NIKON D7100 - Aperture f/6.3?ISO 200?Shutter 1/13 - NIKKOR 70 - 300 lense Set to Aperture Priority Mode

Inspiration

On my way back heading south I attained a different perspective of the meadow area - Looking at it from this perspective / angle - It just seemed to look much more open and appealing. Soft and calm with the sun and cloud accentuating in the background. Kinda reminding my of a Pink Floyd Album cover concept. Overall I liked the Mood

Editing

In Photoshop - Duped the background layer, set the blending mode to multiply and reduced the opacity to 10%. Flattened. Added a touch more Yellow in colour balance, then Increased the Vibrance slightly

In my camera bag

NIKON D7100 - NIKKOR 70 - 300 or NIKKOR 18 - 140 lense Sometimes brinag along a tripod.

Feedback

Lighting as always is huge - I myself feel that time time of day (dusk) was key for this composition. If taken during mid afternoon with bright sunlight and blue sky, the image would take on an entirely different mood or impression
