The Brunssummerheide is located in the beautiful vast South Limburg hills near Heerlen. Through the area run a number of faults which have created the large height differences. The highest parts lie on the old Maasterras and contain a coarse-grained sandy soil. In the lower parts tertiary sand is present, deposited by the sea in a humid and warm climatic period. And in this hilly and exciting area the Hesse fought against the Romans many centuries ago. What a history in this beautiful moorland!
