Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at an abandoned old soft drinks factory in the industrial area of Volos city (Greece).

Time

The photo was taken in the afternoon, during early sunset.

Lighting

The lighting was totally natural, without any kind of flash. The truly magical thing about it was that the light coming in from the half-destroyed roof and the cracks in the walls was nicely diffused due to the light colors of the frayed walls.

Equipment

The equipment used for this shot was my Canon 700D, handheld, with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo by the mode's naturalness standing in front of my camera, the perfect color match of the model's clothing and the background, and of course the nice natural lighting of the spot.

Editing

I did the post-processing on Photoshop CS6 to correct the white balance, boost up a little the contrast and saturation, and give more vivid tones to the skin and the eyes.

In my camera bag

I normally have with me the following: - A Canon 700D - A Manfrotto 190 XPRO 3 with an MHXPRO-BHQ2 ball head - A Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM - A Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM - A Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM - A Yongnuo YN600EX-RT II (with a Diffuser)

Feedback

I would advise anyone who is up to portrait photography to pay attention to the correct lighting of the model's face, to focus on the eyes, and in most cases have the lens straightened with the model's head and particularly the eyes.
