Location
This photo was taken in Reykjavik, Iceland, on the city walk along the ocean. The city walk includes many landmarks, such as the Viking ship sculpture "Sun Voyager," the Harpa concert hall, as well as a series of these little yellow lighthouses.Time
Iceland in early April means that daytime is fairly subjective - daylight lasted well past midnight and the sun rose again before 6AM. That means you can easily lose track of time. As a photographer, it also means you get nearly infinite golden hour lighting and lots of springtime clouds. This particular shot's EXIF says 2:20AM, but the camera was likely set to EST. That means this was probably 6 or 7AM Iceland time, but knowing my reluctance to wake up that early, it's hard to say what time this really was.Lighting
Iceland in the springtime is shrouded by clouds because of the changing temperatures. Combine that with the long daylight hours and you get pretty much an entire day of ideal lighting.Equipment
Nikon D7200, 18mm-120mm kit lens. CPL filter.Inspiration
These yellow lighthouses captured my eye for their uniqueness and charm - they're very small! And the clouds, ocean and mountains as a backdrop was too good to pass up.Editing
Basic Lightroom edits, but I did enhance the yellow a bit more to make it "pop" and I used a bit of dehaze on the sky to enhance the clouds. In my camera bag
I normally walk around with just two lenses, depending on what I intend on shooting. On this day, I had the kit lens (which was very versatile and useful for many cases) and a prime 35mm f/1.8 for when I wanted macro, bokeh effects or simply a faster lens overall.Feedback
I've found I get most inspired by going places I've not seen before. If I walk around my city, I tend not to notice as much, but if I'm in a new place, I am always able to pick out something interesting to me. And if you find yourself in a new place, make sure you walk - it's hard to find the right angles and objects to capture in a car. You don't have to travel all the way to Iceland to find something inspiring, but if you ever get the chance, I highly recommend it.
