Uluru is not one of those iconic places you can just travel to for a day drive. It literally is in the middle of nowhere and the closest town, is Alice Springs, about 470kms away or 5 hrs drive.Time
I took this photo about 3pm, sunset was still 2 and a half hours away.Lighting
With Uluru the rock changes colour numerous times during the day depending on the light. It's a place you could sit and watch all day and get a different look each hour.Equipment
I used my 10 yr old Canon 650D and a 3yr old Canon 17-55mm f2.8 lens with polarizerInspiration
When you visit Uluru is a targeted place to visit. You come to see Uluru and the Olgas...nothing else matters. I went out before dawn and stayed till after dark to get different photos of UluruEditing
Not really, it was a perfect capture. Right light and compassionIn my camera bag
Apart from the canon 650D and 17-55mm lens, I use a canon 7DMII and Tamron 150-600mm lens, nifty 50, 55-250mm kit lens and numerous nd filters and a tripodFeedback
Firstly get out there. It's a big effort to get to Uluru or any other iconic place. Do your research on where to stay, permits required and costs. When you get there and it's possible try as many vantage points as possible, try to get a different shot to everyone else and as far as Uluru is concerned....if it's raining and you have the opportunity to get there...Do it. Raining on Uluru is very special to all Australians
