Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my backyard. I have a feeder specifically for the hummingbirds that return each spring.

Time

I usually do most of my hummingbird "shoots" in the afternoon. I get great light during the "golden hour", which is from around 4pm to 5pm where I live.

Lighting

I shot with natural light, right around the afternoon "golden hour".

Equipment

I shoot with a Nikon D7200 and I believe I used my Tamron 70-300 for this photo.

Inspiration

I have always thought hummingbirds were fascinating. They way they move, the speed of their wings and flight characteristics are unique.

Editing

The only processing was conversion from Raw to Jpeg.

In my camera bag

I carry the D7200, a Nikon D3100 (my first "real" digital camera), Tamron 70-300, Nikon 70-300, Nikon 55-200 and Nikon 18-55. Not super great lenses, but they work.

Feedback

Shoot with a fast shutter speed. Especially if you want to freeze the wings.
