I liked all the horse show pictures, reminded me of all the fun and work from when I showed the pinto and paint shows. Used to drive a Ford 9n when I was 13 on my uncles farm also.

Congratulations. This photo is wonderful and it tells such a story. Just wanted to tell you congratulations on being the winner of the photo challenge: ‘ your best photo‘. There were so many great submissions to choose from and a lot of them were from very professional talented photographers. What I wanted to choose was a photo that was simple and told a true story. I took this photo at the Lake County Fair in Indiana. I had gone there early in the day to avoid crowds and was lucky to be able to watch the trainers and owners of the horses that would be judged later in the day. They were practicing their walks, their moves and getting these beautiful animals prepared.Time
I was at the entry gate of the Fair when they opened to the public. I was with only a handful of people since it was early in the day. It was a semi-cloudy, very humid day but the light was perfect for photographing the many events, the people and the animals.Lighting
It was early in the day about 7am. The sun was low in the sky but it was semi-cloudy. Great lighting for photography.Equipment
I used a Sony RX 100, which, so far, is my favorite camera. I have gone through three of them.Inspiration
I was incredibly in awe of the time and energy that the owners and trainers of these show horses put into winning in their particular class. The connection between horse and rider in this photo was apparent and quite moving. It was if they were one entity and I had hoped to capture that "interpretation" with this photo. I feel that I was indeed able to capture the mood.Editing

I carry my camera, of course, and normally my charger and extra battery. This particular day, I only had my camera.Feedback
My advice for other photographers is to always try to capture a feeling, a mood, and of course follow your passions. Our photos tell a story and the key to good photography is to be able to tell that story in one shot.
