Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Fujian, China.

Time

It happened in the middle of the day. I had planned to go somewhere else originally but I didn't have the time to go so I went to look at some famous banyan trees, I didn't know the farmer would be there.

Lighting

The day wasn't optimal for shooting due to the harsh sunlight and the fact I don't own an ND filter but was fortunate enough to spot my subject under a canopy of Banyan trees.

Equipment

Canon 6D mkii, 85mm1.2

Inspiration

I came to snap a few photos of the banyan trees. The farmer was just walking underneath with the cow, i could't miss the opportunity.

Editing

I used lightroom to edit it. used several different mask layers, to be honest I wish I hadn't crushed the blacks so much. I feel like i stylised the image too much.

In my camera bag

My Canon 6Dmkii and my 85mm prime. I now always take a tripod because I missed some pretty amazing shots. Live and learn I guess.

Feedback

I didn't use a tripod for this image but I would reccomend you always carry one. Don't be afraid to get your knees dirty, I had jumped on a rock to make sure I didn't have anyone else in the shot and also lay on a log. Find your angle, get dirty and hope for the best. It'll be worth it.
