Behind The Lens
Location
It was shot in a studio in Basingstoke owned by a good friend Kris Karl, I use his studio because of its array of lights and ease of access, plus big bonus its only a few miles drive.Time
It was shot in the afternoon about 15.00, there is a little natural light on the left hand side, which has acted as a bit of fillLighting
a very simple single light set up, set face on , slightly high about shoulder height with a beauty dish with a grid to soften the overall effect effect.Equipment
A Nikon D3X with a 70-200 F2.8 Nikon zoom, which is really my go to lens, as it is for a lot of photographers. No tripod, hand held and trigger operated, used honey badger strobe 350Inspiration
I always shoot in mono in the studio because it is easier to see the burnouts of light on the back of the camera than it is in colour. It was one of those model shoots just practicing, I just had this idea to shoot Carla Monica(the model) with her jacket open, I had realised that the jacket blended brilliantly with both her hair and skin, I set the shot up and allowed her to do her modelling thing and out of 5 shots this was one of them.Editing
I crop in camera, having had my training in film, old habits die hard..... apart from the mono conversion afterwards as the shot reverts to colour and some hairs and a couple of wool marks on the backdrop, no real processing requiredIn my camera bag
I carry, a 50mm prime 27-80mm zoom 70- 200mm zoom and a 105mm prime plus a sure camera batteries and SD cards, cleaning cloths and an artic butterfly brush and an air rocket blower...2 x speed lights 800"s a lens baby plus a 58mm art lens and the wraps, blue tack and small bulldog clips ....a water cover for my lens's thats about itFeedback
Be patient and shots will come, try to go for quality rather than quantity and always spend 20 mins before your shoot talking to the model over a cup of coffee, it relaxes them and makes the shoot much more personable, plus most of all have FUN!!!!!
