Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on my exterior patio door during a record breaking heat wave in the Pacific Northwest.

Time

It was about mid-day, and it was hot! If I didn't know better, I would think the spider was pining to get inside into the air conditioned apartment.

Lighting

Almost everything I shoot is with natural lighting. I may fill in with a camera flash, but that's about it.

Equipment

I shot this on my Samsung Galaxy S21, no flash, or tripod. I placed the phone perpendicular to the patio glass, with the camera lens closest to the glass to get this photo. 3x optical zoom, with the phone as close as possible and still be in focus.

Inspiration

This photo inspired me to get back into photography as this felt like a once in a lifetime shot. I used to enjoy photography, but it lost favor somewhere in my life with family and all, and this shot brought all that interest back. I am looking forward to where the interest now takes me. Photography is extremely therapeutic.

Editing

The only post processing I did was to crop the photo a little bit.

In my camera bag

For most of my photos, I just have my camera phone with me, as I am usually out for a hike or a walk. I'll bring my old Canon XTi Rebel (no live view, it's so old) if I want to get landscape shots, or need more manual adjustments that I know I can't do with the phone camera. Once I upgrade to a newer DSLR, I will most likely use that for most shots.

Feedback

These new phone cameras are amazing, and they can get in small spaces that a DSLR cannot, making them a very useful part of the tools a photographer has at his ready. Don't be afraid to use them just because they are not a 'real' camera.
