Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Madera Canyon, Arizona, near Sahaurita, Arizona.

Time

We started shooting in the late afternoon and stayed on location until sunset. The sun was very low in the sky at this point so around 7:30 PM.

Lighting

It was a mostly clear day with a bit of desert dust in the air towards the mines to the west northwest of the location, making for a reddish golden hour lighting situation. As we were part way up the mountain on a cliff near the top of the waterfall we had been shooting at, the light was nearly straight at her from over my shoulder.

Equipment

The shot was taken with my Canon T2i camera and Canon 55-250 lens.

Inspiration

Angela was going to be moving to the east coast in a few days and wanted to get one last photoshoot in. We had shot the day before but did not get everything she wanted accomplished, so I ducked out of work a little early and met her back at the location in the afternoon. We were losing light in the slot canyon the waterfall occupies and saw the lighting on the cliff and scrambled up there to make use of the light. We had been focusing on swimwear that day so she threw on this bikini and white shirt.

Editing

Very little. I’m not a big proponent of post processing, but I did use Portrait Professional to just touch up a couple of blemishes and scratches from hiking in the area to shoot.

In my camera bag

At that time, I normally had a Canon T2i camera and a 18-55 and 55-250 mm lenses. Today I have a Canon 80D and my main lens is a 70-200mm leens
