Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at home with my gecko in his terrarium.

Time

It was at night, but the light is from the terrarium.

Lighting

I had my gecko on my hand and I had to move him around and do a lot of test shots to figure out the best location under the terrarium lighting.

Equipment

Canon 2000D Aperture f/5.6? ISO 6400? Shutter 1/200? Focal Length 55/1?

Inspiration

I love photos I’ve seen of close ups of animals, especially their eyes. I love to see the details in the eyes.

Editing

The only post processing was sharpening the image and slight adjustments of the highlights and shadows.

In my camera bag

My Canon 2000D, and a 55-85mm lens and my 75-300mm lens. I got all kit equipment because it was cheaper to start out. When I get more advanced I’ll upgrade. I also keep extra batteries and SD card son my bag just in case. There is nothing as frustrating as missing a shot because a dead battery or full card.

Feedback

Experiment. Try different lighting, distances, lenses. I tried a lot of different techniques before I landed on the right shot. It will be different for each photo and sometimes you’ll surprise yourself with the results of your experiments.
