Behind The Lens

Location

This beautiful juvenile Bluebird is seen here in my Napa, California backyard.

Time

Taken around 3:30pm Pacific time.

Lighting

The afternoon sun streaming into the yard provided an opportunity for me to shoot from a cool shaded spot while the subjects colors weNikon re lit by the abundant natural light.

Equipment

My standard for this location is a Nikon D5100 with a DX Nikkor 55-300mm lens.

Inspiration

While I am fairly new to photography and birding once I started taking pictures and noticing the different types of birds that abound in my beautiful Napa Valley both hobbies caught on like wildfire prompting me to learn and foray more and upgrade equipment.

Editing

No processing.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D5100 is my go-to. I usually have my Nikon DX af-s Nikkor 35-300mm lens and a Nikkor 18-55 lens.

Feedback

If you love what you are looking at and you love capturing those moments combine those loves with as much knowledge as you can find. After that, a lot, lot of trial and error. I'm still learning a ton and as a newbie I find that, at least in bird photography timing and good luck play a big role.
