I took this photo at a mountain biking competition in Innsbruck, Austria. This trip was the first time I really tried my hand at photography, and was really excited to take such an action photo.Time
This was one of the most memorable days on this trip. My friends and I had kept seeing adds for this competition throughout our trip and decided to check it out. Around noon we rode a ski lift up the mountain and continued to hike further up. The views were amazing.Lighting
Innsbruck is a city basically surrounded by mountains, so everything is bathed in shade for most of the day. This was taken at the top of one of the mountains so you were really able to feel and enjoy the bright sun on the nice day.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon d3300 with a standard 18-55 mm f/3.8 lens.Inspiration
This trip was my first time taking photos with a dslr camera. While at this competition we watched a large number of mountain bikers compete, and many do tricks, and I wanted to find a way to capture the true excitement and joy these riders felt. The man on the bike in this photo was in the lead by a large amount, and I felt his pose in this photo truly demonstrated his excitement to be winning and in control.Editing
I did not do post processing! In my camera bag
I tend to travel light with my equipment, and will always have the 18-55 standard kit lens. Now I also keep a 55-200mm f/4-5.6 because I made the mistake once of leaving it behind once and actually needing it.Feedback
Take lots of pictures, in all different types of environments! Sometimes you just need a little luck in your timing, and taking lots of pictures will not only help you improve but you’re bound to take some wonderful shots along the way!
