Location
This was my first venture out on the Chattahoochee river in Atlanta Georgia with my Canon RP. Last year I only used my Canon sx530 hs. I saw this Heron flying around, landing in different spots. Every time I approached in my kayak, it would take off and fly somewhere new. I had to get close because all I had was a 24-105 lens. My pursuit finally paid off after trying to sneak up on it for about an hour. The RP has no weatherproofing, so it's not the best camera to have on the water. It's also got a very slow frame rate, so birds in flight are tough to get.Time
This was taken around 3 in the afternoon. It was a bit cloudy which definitely helped. The wind was fairly calm, so I was able to catch the reflection of the Heron in the water.Lighting
This would have been a tough shot to get in the middle of the day with full sun. Fortunately the sun was passing in and out of the clouds. I got lucky with the timing of it all. That Heron wasn't there for more than a few minutes before flying off again. Just long enough for me to paddle close enough to get the shot.Equipment
Canon RP with an rf 24-105.Inspiration
I really enjoy getting out on the water. I bring my camera pretty much everywhere, so ofcourse the river is no different. You never know what you might see out there. There's always something fun to point my camera at.Editing
I edit all of my pictures in light room. I try to keep it simple. Usually fix any shadows or highlights. Maybe boost the vibrance and saturation. In my camera bag
I carry a Canon sx530 hs and a Canon RP. I only have 2 lenses for my RP right now. I have an rf 50mm f1.8, and a rf 24-105mm f4- 7.1. I always bring my Manfrotto mini tripod with me when I'm on the river. I can balance it on the side of my kayak.Feedback
Just get out there and enjoy the day. Have your camera at the ready. Be patient. If you have a boat, it's going to be much easier to approach your subject. Don't give up!
