Location
Bodie Island in Cape Hatteras National Seashore. North Carolina coast.Time
I was camping nearby at Oregon Inlet campground for about two weeks. Was going to Bodie Island almost everyday to shoot the lighthouse at sunrise and sunset. This shot was taken just prior to sunrise from the perfect location to photograph the Bodie Island lighthouse at sunset. Apparently the perfect location to shoot a sunrise of the surrounding marsh as well!Lighting
The histogram of the camera original was just about perfect just barely touching both the right and left edges. Edit was done from a single exposure and other than color adjustments was just the basic editing I do to almost all my photos.Equipment
Canon T6i, 18-55mm STM Canon wide angle. Extremely heavy old school Bogen tripod, overkill on a windless morning but I don't own a travel/lightweight tripod.Inspiration
I was at Bodie island to photograph the lighthouse. I took a break from the lighthouse walked to this spot after noticing the mirror like reflections in the shallow surrounding waters. Grabbed this shot walked back to where I was photographing the lighthouse to grab a few more photos after the sun rose.Editing
Starting with a well balanced original exposure editing was very basic. All the extra attention was placed on color temperature, tint, HSL, and vibrance. Normal treatment for most sunrise/sunset photos. In my camera bag
I carry only 1 camera bag with 2 crop sensor Canon DSLRs. One has a 100mm macro on it. The other the 18-55mm STM. I don't change lenses in the field to cut down on the need to have the sensor cleaned. Tripod is an extremely sturdy (and extremely heavy UGH!) old Bogen tripod capable of use with much heavier equipment.Feedback
For me the two most important things for a successful sunrise photo are an alarm clock and COFFEE.
