Location
This photo was taken right outside my mother's home, in Otis, Maine. I was in the front yard facing her log home, that her parents built in the late 70's. My great grandmother also planted the Forsythia around that time as well.Time
It was evening. Probably around 4 or 5pm. I remember waiting for my children to be busy eating dinner before sneaking out to try and get this shot.Lighting
The typical New England weather provided all the lighting I needed. It doesn't rain all the time but often looks like it could at any given moment. Personally I don't mind that kind of weather though. I enjoy shooting when it isn't extremely bright out.Equipment
I captured this image using my Canon Rebel Xs EOS with an 18-55mm lens. That was the only equipment used.Inspiration
Originally, in May of 2020, I had taken a similar photo while out practicing. I'd really loved that I had gotten the outline of the house in the background. However I just wasn't satisfied with how the overall picture came out. So, on may 9th, 2021 I set out to try and recreate it. There were a lot more blossoms this year. Getting more of those beautiful yellow flowers in the photo was the main goal. Though it was incredibly important to me to keep the house outline in the background.Editing
I don't recall everything I did. Usually I make my images slightly darker and adjust the colours a little. I try not to change too much though. I'm very new to editing so I don't know or do a whole lot. There is still so much for me to learn. In my camera bag
In my bag you can find back up SD cards, spare batteries, extra film , a small tripod I've never used and three cameras. I've always got my Rebel and my AE-1 with me. Usually the third camera is an old Fujifilm XP I only use for underwater photos. Occasionally I switch it out for my One step or another film camera.Feedback
Have patience and practice. Those two things helped me greatly. Emphasis on the patience. I waited a whole year to get what I was looking for out of my subject. Taking that year to practice similar photography. If it's important to you just keep trying and take your time.
