A wild dog kill just out side camp, to recap here's the full story;

Our first morning drive at Machaba Camp was a wash out with the November rains starting in earnest. We returned to camp very disheartened. After brunch we too a nap in the hope that it would help us recover from the previous two days travel. We were disturbed by noises outside the ten, as I raised my head I could see a Wild Dog running past through the mesh.

We go up, had a scout around the front of the tent and checked out the tracks. There had definitely been impala running past as well as a dog. We checked up and down the river and could see at least two dogs somewhere in the region of the mess tent. Then two impala came running our way, we stood back behind a bush and waited in the hope that the dogs might follow.

Angela went up to the main camp to 'call it in' and came back with the news that the dogs had chased an impala into the river where a hippo had chopped it in two, right in front of the mess ten and some newly arriving guests. I suggested that we both took a walk up to where the action had taken place to see if we could get a better view. There was impala prints on the path back up to the main area of the camp. While we were checking out the riverside Elcke (camp manager) came running down and shouted that the dogs had made a kill by the service area and that they were starting to eat.

We followed her and needed to get into a vehicle in order to get closer to the cars, there was a comical scramble as people tried to match cars with keys but we managed to get out in good time with Shaun (manager & guide) in the first car. We spent the next 60+ minutes watching five dogs devour an impala and then followed them for a short distance until they came to rest in a shady area on a close by island, where we found them again later in the afternoon.
