Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at a private lake accessed through a hiking trail in the small town of Mariaville, NY.Time
I remember taking this walk in the early evening on a chilly April day during the first lockdown in 2020. I had just gotten the Lensball and remembered this location. I thought it would be a good place to try it out given the flatness of the area.Lighting
The lighting was just about perfect for what I was trying to capture. The only difficulty was the sun was beginning to set behind the heavily wooded area directly behind me, which ended up being captured in the Lensball.Equipment
I was using my Canon M50 with a standard lens, no tripod, just 2 very steady hands. I also clearly utilized a Lensball.Inspiration
This was during the beginning of my photography as a new hobby. Being in quarantine in such an isolated area, the idea behind the photo was to depict how isolated and upside-down everything felt. Being at this lake where you have the full panoramic view of it, putting the small section in the Lensball and aligning it with the trees, brought together the feeling of being enclosed in such a big world, and being upside-down represented how abnormal and out of place this chunk of time felt to those of us fortunate enough to not have been working on the front lines.Editing
I previously mentioned this was the beginning of me trying to learn photography. I was very new to the post-production process. I am sure I adjusted exposure, and likely put a HDR filter from PSExpress over it lol.In my camera bag
My tripod, my zoom lens, a ring light or flash, cleaning supplies, various filters.Feedback
Just play around with it. The lighting is always unique with the Lensball, the slightest movement can change the light drastically within the sphere. But if you take a bunch, you’re bound to find a gem or two!
