Location
This particular photo was taken literally in front of my home. I have a workspace with a front-facing window and was noticing the spring blooms and decided to grab my camera to capture a touch of the beauty.Time
Relatively early morning, just after the sun begins to cast it's direct light.Lighting
Beautiful, warm, early morning sunlight falling directly on the bloom. No other modifiers or fill.Equipment
Fuji X-H1 with the XF80mm F2.8 macro, hand-held.Inspiration
Spring in the desert can simply beautiful, with the blooms often coming quickly. Keeping an eye on what's around you can be the best inspiration, and taking the time and opportunity to capture the beauty is key.Editing
CaptureOne Pro is used to process images from RAW with an eye towards keeping things "real" and not over-processing. I prefer a film-like look, so processed with that approach in mind and felt that the grain enhanced the texture of the bloom. In my camera bag
I love close-up and macro so will almost always have that available. Having a standard-wide lens (e.g., 35mm equivalent) and a longer telephoto (e.g., 80mm+) seem to afford the most flexibility for me.Feedback
Think locally - often you don't have to go far to find amazing opportunities for great photos. Being ready for the opportunity when you see it, having the camera and lens available are important. I love looking for the beauty in the simple, sometimes overlooked elements of life all around us. Don't be afraid to look closely.
