Behind The Lens

Location

“I took this photo in the village farthest from the city centre of West Sumatra Province, Indonesia. Precisely in Sungai Pagu Village, South Solok Regency, Sumatra, Indonesia. Medical officers in protective suits work to help the public by coming door to door to provide health services during the Covid-19 virus pandemic outbreak. They work sincerely and are willing to leave their loved ones at home.

Time

This photo was taken on December 3, 2020, at 15.17 PM. It is not only the best moment but also sends a message to the world that there are still health nurses who are struggling, volunteering their time to help people, especially young children who are experiencing high growth in areas with very little access to health. I left that day on my motorbike and travelled from Padang City to a village in South Solok Regency with a distance of 106 kilometres. My journey has to pass through damaged roads, forest areas that are haunted by a sense of anxiety. When I arrived at the location, I went around until late in the afternoon, entered the village for isolated residents with access to health. Until he met a health worker at a resident's house who was suffering from malnutrition, he was currently carrying out his duties to provide nutrition and measure the height of a child with stunting. I didn't have any supporting equipment, so I tried to take pictures of the medical activities he was doing until I dared take pictures of him. The weather was very hot, I had to aim at it with my position stepping on the mud, which is a rice field.

Lighting

"I make full use of sunlight because there is no supporting equipment. In fact, the external flash has run out of battery. I then decided to take advantage of natural lighting, namely the sun, against the background of an old house wall with a previous height gauge attached"

Equipment

“I shot using a Canon EOS 7D camera with an 18-55mm f / 3.5 lens. There's no other equipment involved, because that's all I have, nothing else,"

Inspiration

"I think about presenting to people in the world how the condition of health nurses is working in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic which has not subsided until now. Moreover, the area I photographed is an area that has very little access to health services, in fact, they are almost travelling get through with jungle to save people who have health problems. So I only take advantage of what is seen without having to change the message to be conveyed to all of us. Until finally I decided to present a portrait of health workers working in the village and nearby Tropical Rainforest of Sumatra"

Editing

"I am a journalist photographer and always shoot using RAW and do the editing process only through the Canon EOS 7D camera which I have learned since I bought it in 2005. This equipment always accompanies me to work, because there is no other additional equipment. Apart from that, I work with it. honesty and facts "

In my camera bag

"I honestly say that in my bag I only contain a laptop, charger, cable and carry a Canon EOS 7D camera with a built-in lens, and a 55-20 mm lens, F / 1: 4-5.6 IS II. I like to use it even though until now I want to add more equipment but I haven't had the time to buy it. Besides, I bring medical equipment whenever I take pictures in the forest because my work is in touch with indigenous people. I am sure of the results that I photographed,"

Feedback

"There is still a lot to be explored in Sumatra, Indonesia. Apart from the weather, it also has an active volcano and is close to the Indian Ocean. In fact, being able to meet indigenous people. Taking pictures is not just fun but requires patience, interaction and listening to stories that are true. has never been written down. Photos are not just portraits or landscapes but need to be accompanied by travel notes so that they become travel archives to be conveyed to people in the world :-)
