Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Killaloe, County Clare. A stand of Great Oak and ring fort sit beside the Shannon at a traditional crossing, controlled by Brian Boru 980ad. The photo was setup on the side of a hill over looking the Great Osk. I was waiting for cloud break and the light to lift through the forest when my son and his grandad appeared in the frame playing hide and seek

Time

The photo was taken late on a summers evening. The evening light bouncing through the green. I had to wait for the clouds to break and the light to lift.

Lighting

With the soft summer evening light bouncing though the vegetation, a natural green filter was created. I believe this is primarily because of the moss on the bark of the trees.

Equipment

Nixon F80 with 20mm nikor prime f1.8 lens. I used a tripod

Inspiration

A love of Silhouette and a desire to capture the grandeur of the site.

Editing

No post production

In my camera bag

These days i use Olympus micro four third format with a number of primes and a general purpose 40- 70mm pro Olympus lens. I also carry a dji mavic 2 pro drone.

Feedback

I scouted this site many times. To capture the image, I had to work our the correct time of day to get the effect through the forest. I also struggled with placement. It was difficult to capture the grandeur of the tree. I chose to climb and look down on the tree. Prepare well, be patient, work the angles.
