Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photograph at my local nature reserve.

Time

I had gone to catch the sunset as the sky was looking a little moody. The fading light, colourful full sky and feathered friends made it all come together.

Lighting

I’m a huge fan of the lighting around sunrise/sunset. Don’t just take a couple of shots and bounce either, the most magical blue hour lighting doesn’t last for very long.

Equipment

I feel like a bit of a cheat here. I actually used my iPhone 11 to take this picture, as I had to sell my Nikon DSRL to pay the bills during the pandemic. It means that this award is extra special, as it was not taken with the best equipment.

Inspiration

I was not in the greatest of moods and decided a trip to clear my mind was in order. It’s been a difficult year during this pandemic so I often take a little still to the nature reserve for some peace and quiet.

Editing

I usually have a little tinker in Adobe Lightroom. I try not to go too heavy with my editing, and just accentuate the depth more than anything.

In my camera bag

At the moment, it is literally just an iPhone.

Feedback

Always think outside the box, and try to envisage what kind of shot you want before taking it - this will allow you to take the shot from potentially new angles.
