Behind The Lens

Location

I was walking along the river bank near my flat and saw this boat drifting with the current in the afternoon light.

Time

It was later in the day on a bright winter day.

Lighting

The sun was beginning to sink in the direction the man is looking.

Equipment

I hand held my Canon 7D mk2, with a kit lens.

Inspiration

A central part of my practice, especially during lockdown, is documenting life in my immediate neighbourhood, using the changing light, greenery, river and built landscape.

Editing

My general rule is to try to get it right in camera and do minimal processing.

In my camera bag

Perhaps this is odd but when I go out with my camera I take one lens, with a UV filter and possibly a polariser. So I have choose locations and compose images within those constraints. It forces me to think about light and angles, how I position my self, standing, kneeling or even finding something to stand on.

Feedback

Learn your place and how it changes over the day, the week, the month and the year, become able to see the new perspective in a familiar spot. It helps to be between the Thames and the Grand Union so there is always something to see.
