Location
this shot was taken in Glacier National Park. There is creek which flows along a trail to a place called Hidden Lake. All along the trail the creek flows through beautiful slick red rock just like what you see here, offering breath taking scenes like this one.Time
I believe it was late morning. Our plan was to hike the 2+ mile trail to Hidden Lake and take some images. This creek was quite the added bonus.Lighting
The sun was shinning brightly but a canopy of trees blocked most of the harshness. I took several images in an effort to get the most even lighting.Equipment
Canon 80D, 55-250mm Canon lens, a Vanguard tripod with Monofroto ball headInspiration
how could I not!? I remember arriving at the park and saying to my wife "I am going to keep my attention on the mountains and am not going to focus on the water (I live in MN and with over 10,000 lakes, I shoot a LOT of water). Well, one look at the beautiful blue water, that plan went out the window.Editing
The only thing I do with my images is color and density corrections. I may occasionally remove a branch or other unsightly object but I am careful to keep my images just as I saw them through the viewfinder. In my camera bag
My bag consists of Canon bodies and lenses. I have an adjustable ND filter on my lenses most of the time as well as a variety of gradual ND filters. I have other tools such as a small light disc, extra battery packs, a rain coat (for me and the camera), and even pipe cleaners I use to gently keep unwanted branches and whatnot out of my shot.Feedback
Don't ever let the time of day or the quality of light determine your shooting. Get out on the trails and keep your creative eye focused on what you see around you. There are always beautiful images waiting to be captured.
