Location
This photo was taken from the top of Colombier's Mountain. A beautiful summit in the Northern Alps, near the city of Chambery. Colombier is part of a natural and protected park.Time
The timing during this hike was very important. Because of the lockdown in France, we only had a few hours out allowed. After walking very fast for about two hours on the steep slopes below the summit and in the sun, we reached the summit in thick fog.. The sky was slowly clearing but we had very little time to get back home. So I took advantage of the first clearing to take this photo, on November 10th, at 1 PM.Lighting
I didn't have much time to think about the lighting, because of the fog, my only goal was to get a shot from the view. I tried to get that moment when the sun came out of the fog. I also wanted to get the birds in the sky to add some mysterious atmosphere.Equipment
For this shot, I only used my iPhone SE (2020). I didn't have any tripod so I used a rock to stabilize the phone and get the shot.Inspiration
I really love this mountain because on one side it's very steep, with rocks, chasms, and cliffs. However, on the other side, it's a beautiful and steep meadow. This particularity makes this place even more beautiful. Also, in the background, there are several smaller mountains which is great to add a nice perspective. Finally, this kind of weather ad some mysterious vibes, with birds flying low and only a few people, you feel like in another world. I really wanted to get that kind of shot, wild, mysterious.Editing
As I took this photo on my phone, I used Lightroom Mobile to make some adjustments particularly to highlight shadows and birds. In my camera bag
I always have at least my phone and a GoPro. It all depends on the kind of hike. If I go light, I only bring that. But when I go for an all-day hiking trip, I bring up to three GoPros, my Panasonic G7 with a 14-42 lens, and also my DJI Mavic Air to get some aerial shots.Feedback
I think that the best advice I could give is to go out even if you think that the weather will not allow you to get the shot you want. Sometimes, the weather is changing quickly and you get some nice vibes that you would have never thought of shooting!
