While on a walk in my neighborhood, my kids and I finally reached the creek by our home where my kids like to throw pebbles in. I always have a camera with me, so I was very lucky to catch this amazing sunset.Time
I took this photo while on a walk with my children one Sunday, at dusk. It was the perfect time of day, the weather was incredible, and we were having so much fun together. As we were walking, we finally reached to the creek by our home. I literally stopped in my tracks and just stared at the beautiful creek with the amazing sunset behind it.Lighting
This photograph is probably one of my favorite images and one that I am most proud of. I took this photo while on a walk with my children one Sunday, at dusk. It was the perfect time of day, the weather was incredible, and we were having so much fun together. I literally stopped in my tracks and just stared at the beautiful creek with the spectacular sunset behind it. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous that particular day. The colors were so vibrant and it literally looked like the sky was on fire! I also loved how the reflection from the sunset lighted up the creek as if it were a mirror.Equipment
I took this photograph with my Nikon Z5 with a Nikon DX 18-55mm lease. I also used an attachable Nikon Speed-light SB-400. No other equipment was needed or used.Inspiration
I am always looking for opportunities to take pictures and learn from them. I also like to challenge myself to take photographs in an area of photography that is out of my "comfort zone". But I would say what really inspired me to take this image, was the picturesque sunset that was right in front of me. How could I just keep walking and not take a moment to appreciate the beauty that was all around me? The creek with the reflection of the magnificent sunset was not something I was going to miss capturing.Editing
I did have to do some post-processing editing to get the desired effect I was going for. I use different editing software depending on what I want done. This time I opened up Lightroom and started with Clarity and Dehaze since it helps the overall exposure. Then I made sure the exposure was right and then brought out the detail from the Shadows and added a little contrast to the image. I moved the saturation slider just a little to darken part of the sky, corrected the Temperature a little, and then bumped up the Vibrance. I had a really good picture that I liked, but wanted to to correct a couple of things. The end result was a really great photo that matched the image and message that I wanted to convey. In my camera bag
I always carry all of my everyday equipment in my Bagsmart backpack because it is easy to carry and access my camera. Inside my backpack I always carry my Nikon Z5 with my everyday Nikon DX Lense (18-55mm), my Nikon DX Lense (55-200) for Macro shots, and my charger. I also carry my 58mm attachable Moment Lense and the compatible case that goes on my iPhone. Sometimes I decide to do panoramic photos or use both cameras at the same time to get different angels and perspectives. I also ALWAYS have another SD card with me at all times!Feedback
I think the most important advice I can give to anyone trying to capture something similar is to always be prepared, be patient and experiment with different settings and angels. The first thing I always do is check the weather so that I can get a good idea of what time the sun will set. There is a short time period before and after sunset that you can get the image you want. I always get there early so that I don't miss my opportunity because once it goes...it goes fast. If you have something specific you have invisioned in your mind, that will greatly depend on your timing and position. If you just want to experiment, I recommend giving yourself plenty of time and opportunities to practice. Because no matter how much you prepare, nature is going to do what it is going to do; and every new day will give you a set of different opportunities to work with. Be patient and be kind to yourself. Every photograph is a chance to learn something you didn't know before.
