This photo was taken along one of the bridges inside castle eden dene nature reserve in peterlee. I am pretty new to using animals as a subject so it was interesting to try this shoot.Time
I remember going out for this shoot. A couple of friends of mine were really wanting to go for a nature inspired walk to clear out heads and one always brings he dog with her. I thougt it would be a perfect opportunity to practice some more portraiture style photos. The time of day was around two o'clock in the afternoon, I don't have exact date and time with me but the light was really moody and it made it a challenge to shoot.Lighting
As previously mentioned, the light was very in a very moody type of area, there wasn't a lot of open sky to be able to use the sun or natural light as well as I had hoped but there was still enough for me to be able to capture her face really accurately. I found trying to find a good balance for my shutter speed was a little difficult but it was a fun challenge to work out in the end.Equipment
The only equipment that was used was my trusty nikon D5600 and the 18-24mm wide angle lens that came with it.Inspiration
My inspirations for this shot were down to the fact that she is a beautiful dog and I knew that I wanted to be able to get more portrait practice in. We (previously mentioned friends) had arranged to go for a walk anyway however the person with the dog then managed to get free and ended coming with us. It's a great walk and is full of nature and inspiration, I could gush over it forever, however I knew that the bridge sat at the very top of the walk and I knew I wanted at least one photo of the dog even if that's all I got. We got there and I have a look for the best spot in terms of leading lines and just framing in general and end up with what you see.Editing
There was a small amount of transferring files from devices and then small adjustments in terms of the lighting and the focus, making sure the depth of field is how I want it and making sure that the dog is in loads of detailIn my camera bag
Usually all I go out with is my D5600 and the 18-24mm as I don't exactly have access to any other equipment at this time.Feedback
All I would say is to be patient with your subject. They are going to naturally be more fidgety and can struggle to sit still, especially when they are excited. But I believe the shot comes with the day, you can't plan everything so be patient and relax, the shot will come.
