Behind The Lens

Location

Jogighopa hills in Goalpara district, Assam, India. This hills are known for the caves that were used by ancient yogis as dwelling and a place to meditate. It is a archeological survey of India protected site and is situated on the banks of the river Brahmaputra.

Time

3 or 4pm

Lighting

The afternoon light was perfect as it slanted across from the front/right of this particular cave. There are numerous caves out there but this one had the perfect light at that point of time and the old tree worked as a nice foreground and an old inhabitant of this ancient place.

Equipment

Shot on my phone camera vivo x60 pro.

Inspiration

The space inspires peace and tranquility in solitude.

Editing

B/W conversion with moon instagram filter and a bit of contrast, brightness and shadow/highlight adjustment.

In my camera bag

Canon 6D, 24-70 l, 50mm, 70-300 mm, Vivo x60 pro, gimble, tripod, rode micro and some filters.

Feedback

Try to get the composition right, recognise the different elements available for you as a photographer to frame the picture. Elements like texture, color, forms and it's interactions should nudge you towards how you frame the picture. For me as a personal choice, if there are no other aesthetic, editorial or artistic considerations I shoot B/W when the image is almost monochrome in its color version. In this particular picture the subject didn't have much color and it was black, white and grey mostly.
