Location
This photo was taken in Horseshoe Bend, AR. I've been taking birds-in-flight shot since October, 2020, and it has become a passion of mine.Time
This photo was taken around 11am on a cold overcast day. I just received my new lens and was out taking some practice shots in low light conditions. It was around 32 degrees and could barely move. I warmed right up once I downloaded the file to my computer.Lighting
Having a zoom lens with a low f-stop of 2.8, allows for some reasonably good low light shots. Helps keep the ISO down even a t fast shutter speeds.Equipment
The equipment used on this shot was a Canon 1D Mark IV with a Canon 1-2.8 70/200mm L IS II lens.Inspiration
My inspiration was seeing all of the great bif shots on this site and others. I said, "I want to do that!" So I learned how.Editing
Yes some post-processing. Cropped, dehazed and slightly sharpened. In my camera bag
I carry two cameras. A Canon 80D with two kit lenses: 18/55mm and a 75/300mm. I also carry a Canon 1D Mark IV, with a Sigma 150/600mm C HSM zoom, and a Canon 70/200mm II USM zoom lens. Depending on the shot(s), I'll carry a tripod or a monopod, sometimes both. Always extra batteries, memory cards, and a lens cleaning kit. I will use a smaller bag when I only need to use one camera and lens.Feedback
Patience, patience and more patience. Birds are not the most cooperative subjects. Learn some of the habits of the birds you want to photograph. Don't be afraid to experiment. Out a burst of 10 shots, feel good that at least one of them was good. Keep shooting!
