I took this in a gravel parking lot behind a bar in Maple Park, IL as part of a photo shoot for the Santa Girl calendar. I wanted a rough, gritty background for the shiney bikes and soft pretty girls.Time
I took a big chance and went for mid afternoon sun on a clear day in June. It was bright, it was hot, but it was so worth the gamble.Lighting
It's all natural sunlight. I do have reflector boards I made out of tinfoil and cardboard. One uses the shiney side and the other uses the dull side. But on this day, I didn't use them. Again, a big gamble.Equipment
My Nikon D3500, no flash, no tripod.Inspiration
I am working on a calendar of Santa Girls. DuKane A.B.A.T.E. (A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education) is a motorcycle awareness organization that fights for Motorcyclists rights, educating the public, and helping downed riders and their families. Our biggest event is the Toy and Food Run, held every October, which helps hundreds of families by donating food and gifts for the holidays. The Santa Girls raise awareness at all local motorcycle events by selling raffle tickets, posing for photos, and giving out information about A.B.A.T.E and the benefits of becoming a member.Editing
I use Gimp for all my post processing. I've been using it for many years. This was cropped a little and a slight tweek to the curves had this shot perfect. In my camera bag
My camera, 2 speed lights with their feet and soft light covers, a nikor 50mm prime, a 55-200mm zoom, lens cloth, comb, chapstick, suckers (for myself and my subjects), extra memory card, extra battery and charger, and a little bit of cash. Once I find my wide angle in storage, that will be in there too.Feedback
I give myself plenty of room to move around my subjects. For this shot I wanted the bike in an atypical spot, the gravel and train tracks, to give it a little more edge than just on the street or sidewalk.
