Every summer, I make a point of visiting the Georgeson Botanical Garden on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. It never disappoints. The flowers are beautiful, with different varieties blooming depending on the time of ayear. On this sunny June day, the colorful peonies were in bloom. Peonies have proven to be a viable cash crop in Alaska, and are shipped worldwide. Their peak falls later in the season than those farms in more southerly climates.
