I actually took this right at an entrance gate while waiting as it caught my eye and it's actually one of the favorite shots I've done with my phone. I used a detail filter to draw out some of the water droplets and highlights as I used a dark filter so the focus was on certain aspects of the photo then I used a paint stroke filter to smear areas of the photo.

Behind The Lens

Location

Oddly I took this shot as I was punching into a gated area, it was cold and raining and I was waiting for the gate to open, had my camera on me and snapped a quick shot.

Time

Late afternoon after a very long drive.

Lighting

I'm not much of a worry about lighting type of photographer due to all the great programs today that can improvise, of course we all look for that perfect lighting, but this was a pretty dark and dreary day and decided to play off poor lighting and do a more artistic photo.

Equipment

Just a simple handheld P900 Camera did the trick.

Inspiration

I love the rain, there is something peaceful about rainy days.

Editing

Yes, I wanted to place a golden sheen on the leaves to call attention around the red dying bud that kind of laid hidden in the shadows, then I used a bluish/lavender dark hue to add some dimension to the leaves collecting water droplets. I placed a slight smearing filter as if the yellow from the flowers were washing away in the rain.

In my camera bag

If I'm planning a photoshoot, I carry all my lighting, screening, a few lenses, a step ladder, and whatever extras I may need. If I'm in nature I go light with maybe one extra lens, extra memory cards/batteries, tripod, food/water, solar charger, rain protection.

Feedback

Try artistic filters and play around with them until you get something you're not really expecting. Photography doesn't have to be exactly what you shoot straight from the camera. It can be a creative work you alter in any way you like. Don't be afraid to color out of the lines.
