Behind The Lens

Location

From the Laurel Street bridge leading to Balboa Park in San Diego. This is one of the most popular sites for tourists and photographers.

Time

9:36 in the morning.

Lighting

Typical sunny day with few wispy clouds.

Equipment

Hand held Casio EX-Z1000 digital camera.

Inspiration

I have taken many photos of the city from this location. The first in 1967 showing only one tall building.

Editing

Converted to black and white in Photoshop. Used Levels and Curves to correct exposure.

In my camera bag

Although I grew up with film cameras, mostly Minolta 35 mm, Graflex, and Mamiya 645 Pro TL medium format I now use Panasonic and Fuji Film digital cameras.

Feedback

This is a popular location for tourists and photographers, so wait to capture an airplane on its approach to San Diego International airport, or wait for some dramatic weather event, or different time of day to get a shot that maybe no one else has thought of. Or if you have a photo of the same location from 50 years ago, then you have a historical record.
