Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at a place probably not well known. Its called Cathedral Gorge State Park in Nevada.

Time

It was late in the day, just before sunset. This place would be a cross between Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. The dirt would be similar to the hoodoos Bryce Canyon. This place truly is dependent on weather. Eventually it will just become mud with no formation. It is constantly washing away creating new paths.

Lighting

That was the light available.

Equipment

It wasn't easy to squeeze back and alls I had was my camera and my most used lens a 24-105 canon.

Inspiration

I have wanted to go canyon exploring just like everyone else in Utah. Only when I went to Bryce Canyon NP I was to early in the season and the water was high. That put a clamp on getting away from the main path. I was only there fore a day and its definitely a place I would love to return to.This little place in Nevada gave that little inspiration of the red rock photos taken in Utah.

Editing

Yes I did photoshop the photo to make it more appealing. I find the world as it looks to me as being drab. I'm a person who likes photos more bold in color and so when I edit I want to exploit what is there. I tell people, that unlike the human eye, the camera can capture minute colors found in the photo. I will sometimes use those colors not seen and bring them out.

In my camera bag

In my bag I can carry everything except my Canon 100-400 Zoom. It stays in its container. Because I will shoot almost anything I carry a macro 100mm, 28mm, 14-40mm, 24-105mm. I do have a tripod and it is light but not that light. I bought a fiberglass manfrotto to use for photoing the northern lights. Fiberglass was better for the hands when its 20 below.

Feedback

I will say your best landscape photos will come early morning and late afternoon when the light is more appealing. Mid day sun is tough to get the great photos in landscape.
