Behind The Lens

Location

I captured this image in our backyard garden which I designed and built expressly for the purpose of attracting and then photographing hummingbirds.

Time

I prefer taking my pictures in the early morning. This particular Anna’s male hummingbird was called Charlie.

Lighting

I like the early morning - or the golden hour in later afternoon.

Equipment

I used a Canon 5D Mark IV with a Canon 100 to 400 ISII L series lens. No tripod or glad was used.

Inspiration

I capture hummingbirds to post on various hummingbird pages on Facebook. They are enjoyed by many all over the world

Editing

Other that cropping, I primarily just dodge and burn - and sharpen a bit

In my camera bag

I carry both a Canon 7D and a 5D Mark IV. My basic lens is a Canon 24 to 70mm L series zoom. My long lens is a Canon 100 to 400 ISII L series zoom. I also carry a Canon full frame fish eye.

Feedback

I just set up the garden and wait fir them to come to me.
