Location
This photograph was taken in a small area of woodland that is adjacent to the Rhymney River, only five minutes away from home, which used to be home to the Rhymney-Merthyr Colliery.Time
This picture was captured not too long after midday, approximately 2 pm BST. It had been drizzling all morning up into the early afternoon, when it finally stopped, I headed out with my camera in the hopes of taking some beautiful macro photographs.Lighting
The only appliance I used was a bog-standard ring-light in order to light up the scenery as it was a dark and dull afternoon as it had been raining for the majority of the day, which is why everything looks so damp and wet in the photograph.Equipment
I used my Nikon D5600 with the AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens, which is the standard lens that usually comes with the Nikon D5600, it is surprisingly good at taking macro photographs! I also used a bog-standard ring light which was attached to the lens in order to light up the scene.Inspiration
For me, I love the details of the 'everyday ordinary', things and creatures that we often overlook in our day-to-day lives as they just aren't 'interesting'. I love standing still, focusing on something, in this case, this fly that was having a rest, and trying to get as up-close and personal as possible in order to capture the details that we would often overlook. Macrophotography is my favourite genre of photography as it allows us to delve deeper into our world, oftentimes of which are so small, we cannot see with the naked eye.Editing
The only post-processing I did in regards to this image is a crop and some basic adjustments, such as exposure correction. In my camera bag
When I took this photograph, all I had in my bag was the Nikon D5600 with the AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens and a ring-light. This is still true today, though I am looking to upgrade and purchase a macro lens when the time is right.Feedback
Trial and error! Don't be afraid to photograph something that YOU think looks interesting. Let your imagination run wild, take creative liberties, and create your own work of art to share with the world. Remember, practice makes perfect.
