Behind The Lens

Location

This was done in my home studio as are all my photographs.

Time

Taken at 6:28pm 6/10/19. Not a morning person....lol. Lindsay Beth Harper, my model for this is a singer songwriter who I have done promotional work for and I asked her to come and do this for me as she was exactly suited, and had the dress. One off my cats just had to photo bomb the shot haha , but it works for me. I purchased the backdrop for the shot.

Lighting

It is all about the lighting for me. I used studio strobes for this. As far as I can remember now, I had a beauty dish on her face at a high angle, a fill soft box to catch dress and twig detail. I did not over light the background with a light.

Equipment

Shot on Sony a700 (before I upgraded to my 900). Processed in Capture One and Portrait Pro.

Inspiration

I had seen the dress in some posts from Lindsay and it just put the image in my head. I was hot on the messaging to Lindsay telling her I must have it!

Editing

Capture One and Portrait Pro.

In my camera bag

This shot was actually taken on a Sony 18-35 lens, though I normally shoot 85,or 50mm. I also shoot through a 4x5 Graflex Speed Graphic with a bracket I built to take the DSLR body. I use studio strobes or hot lights.

Feedback

The only advice I can give is to learn lighting. I was blessed by working with master photographers back in the day.
