Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken in my home studio in Bucharest. When I lived there, I'd often bring my friends there to experiment.Time
Probably in the evening.Lighting
If I remember correctly, this had just one external source of light. Behind the model, there's a Nikon Speedlight SB-700. This created a nice glow in her hair. The book helped to reflect some of that light on her face.Equipment
This was shot using my old Nikon D90. In terms of the lens, I think this was the 18-200mm lens from Nikon. The flash as mentioned above was a Nikon Speedlight SB-700.Inspiration
My love of books. Both my friend who posed for me and I love reading and we wanted this shot to capture the feeling of wander and excitement we got when we found a good book.Editing
Not much, probably just some lighting adjustments, maybe contrast - must have used Lightroom. In my camera bag
These days I've been fascinated with film photography - I received an old Voigtlander Bessa 46 as a gift about half a year ago and I am mesmerized by it. But when I'm shooting digital, I'll use my Nikon D7200 with the 18-140mm lens, or if I wanna travel light I'll have my mirrorless Nikon 1 J5.Feedback
Play with the light. I find a setup like this is a good way to evoke mystery, as most of the picture will be hidden in the shadows, and it lets you light up only the focus points. Maybe try a few test shots using items you have around the house (I like to use a teddy bear for a model) before you invite the model over. Experiment, and have fun with it.
