Location
I captured this image along an overlook on the southern Oregon coast. There are so many opportunities along this coastline to delight photographers!Time
There are so many opportunities along this coastline to delight photographers! In spite of the mid-day light normally not being ideal for landscape photography the light was diffuse enough without a polarizer to help create the effect I was after.Lighting
Lighting and overall weather conditions are challenging as it's often overcast with poor contrast. I've seen it so many times where you cannot tell where the sky and ocean meet. Everything appears grey with no differentiation. That is why this image is powerful to me. You are drawn into it from left to right, then thru the ocean to the sky.Equipment
Canon RP with an 18/250mm dedicated lens. I used a monopod for this image, no flash.Inspiration
I LOVE photographing the coast! Each trip there I inspire to create a fresh new vision of the coastline. The challenges are many to obtain a capture that does not have distracting elements.Editing
I always import into my editing software and make minor adjustments as I deem necessary. Usually it amounts to adjusting the white balance, the highlights/shadows and cropping as needed. In my camera bag
I have 2 Canon camera bodies. An RP, and EOS M series both mirrorless. All of my lenses with one exception are Canon. I always have my 18/250mm, 10/18mm, 800mm, 100mm macro, and a Sigma 100/400, along with 1.4mm teleconverter, and filters, polarizers, neutral density filters. I also have a flash. I always carry a stout monopod with a gimbal head which really covers the majority of my needs with the exception of long exposures and windy conditions.Feedback
Always keep a vision for what you want to capture. And view each photo opportunity as a potential for an award winning image! If conditions are not right at the time, I'll take note of what would need to change to make it the perfect shot! Lighting and wind directions, too many distracting elements such as people in a crowded scene.
