Location
This shot was captured on one of the most beautiful sections of a "Wild and Scenic River" named The North Umpqua after the local tribe of native Americans who lived in this region of the high Cascades of southern Oregon.Time
During a late afternoon hike along a creek that feeds into the North Umpqua river in the high Cascades of southern Oregon I was awe-struck by the perfect symmetry of these multiple waterfalls.Lighting
The late afternoon lighting highlighted the water perfectly, I as able to use a longer shutter speed to slow the motion of the water which added a strong artistic component to the image. It created a lovely balance within the highlights and the shadows on the moss and rocks.Equipment
At the time of that image was taken, I was shooting with a Canon 7D Mark 11with a 10-22mm Canon lens. A Bogen tripod and no flash needed.Inspiration
Living in Oregon is a wonderful place to seek out and shoot waterfalls! I often will take day trips to areas with opportunities to photograph them. The area that this image was taken is know to have more than a dozen sites along tributaries of the river to take short hikes that lead to them. It is one of my favorite areas to explore for fantastic scenery and photo opps.Editing
Surprisingly, very little post-processing was done! It was taken as a CR2 Raw file and I slightly adjusted the shadow slider and saturation. Then resized it and converted to a Tiff file for printing. In my camera bag
I have been a Canon shooter for over 25 years. As time goes by I have upgraded my gear when major technology advancements have occurred. My most current gear consists of a Canon mirrorless full frame RP body, a Canon M series mirrorless camera, Lenses are a RF 24-240mm, an RF 800mm stm, a 100mm macro, and a 10-18mm lens. All are Canon lenses. In addition, I have both a portable lightweight tripod, and a Bogen with a Gimbal head. I also have Canon flash which I use infrequently.Feedback
Part of the fun I have with my photography is the hunt! My version of a good time is to set off on a day or weekend trip to explore new areas for interesting photo opportunities. In preparation I will spend some time researching a specific topic I'm interested in photographing. Then I let go of expectations of what I want to capture and allow myself to open to when I arrive on site and can begin to visualize what images might present to me at the time. Have fun, let go of pre-conceptualized ideas of what you want to shoot, come with a broad open minded approach and enjoy what you see and capture!
