Location
The photo was taken at lake Pasarel just outside of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. It is one of the places I wanted to visit around the peak of autumn colour. In this case I was quite lucky with both the autumn colour and the light.Time
This photo was take in the late morning, quite close to noon actually. This was an interesting year for me. In the past I almost completely ignored times during the days for shooting. I was always shooting around sunrise or sunset. This year with all those restrictions I was traveling less and took opportunities to photograph at various times of the day. It appears that sometimes shooting in the middle of the day is better.Lighting
I was very lucky with the lighting. There were relatively thin clouds and often the light was really beautiful. I was lucky because this was a casual stroll to check the area in the middle of the day. Still only a few minutes after I took the image the clouds were gone and the light was too harsh. Interestingly, while shooting I didn't fully realise how good the light is. I was even a bit disappointed then, because the water level in the lake was low and there was vegetation in the middle which killed the opportunity for full reflection (although the water was very calm). At the end it's probably my favourite image from this year.Equipment
I used Canon EOS R with Canon's 100-400mm mark II. I also used a circular polarizer to get more from the autumnal colour.Inspiration
I knew this is an interesting area near my city that I had never seen. So I went there mostly as a stroll to check it out. Though I was very lucky with the light so I managed to take a good image from the first visit. This is not the best composition though, so I have a good reason to return. I was inspired mostly to search for beautiful autumnal scenes.Editing
Interestingly despite this being in aspect ratio of 4:5 it is part of a huge panorama which I took. The main challenge was processing the huge panorama on a laptop. Otherwise it was mostly fine tuning the contrast and a bit of dodge and burn. You can also see the full panorama in my profile. It is nice, but looks a bit imbalanced. This left part of the panorama got much more light and was so much more colourful and bright. In my camera bag
This is something that is slowly changing for me this year with upgrading to EOS R. For the last few years I used almost exclusively two lenses 16-35mm F4 and 70-200mm F4. I was missing a lot the middle range and with the new camera decided to buy the new RF 24-105mm F4. Now, if I want to be light I can only take this lens, but sometimes add Laowa 15mm and 70-200mm or the lens from this image 100-400mm mark II. On top of the lenses and the body I always take a tripod and a couple of filters (mostly circular polarizer).Feedback
Explore more during the middle of the day. Until recently I was avoiding a lot the times between the sunrise and the sunset. But I am getting to the realization that this is not always the best. Not only in some places it is very hard to get to for sunrise or sunset, but also often the light in the sky is best, but the main subject is still in shade. All times of the day could hide beautiful photography opportunities. This I find especially true during the autumn.
